Western Square Signs Exclusive 12 Year Contract

Western Square Industries just signed an exclusive world-wide 12 year contract with Charles Chadwell, Assistant Professor at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. The contract is for the final development, patenting, manufacturing and distribution and sales of a Seismic Support System for which a Patent filing was done October 15, 2008.

This safety product will greatly improve safety in the winery warehouse during an earthquake. "This product will allow Owners, Operations Managers, Winemakers and Cellar Workers to have peace of mind during the day and allow them to sleep like a baby at night," said Mark Canepa, Western Square's sales manager of the winery products.

This future product offering by Western Square Industries is the result of three years of work by Cal Poly structural engineering professor Charles Chadwell and his team--a modified barrel stacking rack that uses ball bearings to allow the racks to slide rather than sway (and topple) during a quake.

The testing that was done at the Cal Poly shake table showed great results. The only visible movement was its forward and backward sliding on the shake table, as steady as a professional skater on ice. Chadwell's discovery can potentially save wineries millions of dollars if an earthquake happens.

"Western Square Industries is doing everything possible to have products available for sale by February 2009," said Trygve Mikkelsen, the company's president.
